The purpose of this essay is to explore four aspects of New Testament christology which can be called “critical.” They are critical in the sense of being decisive turning points, even points at which there is a parting of the ways, in discourse about Christ. They have to do with (1) the humanity of Jesus, (2) the role of the God of Israel in redemption, (3) the ministry and death of Jesus in the saving work of God, and (4) the scope of redemption.
