Currently, several of the Protestant denominations are deeply divided about homosexuality—specifically the ordination of openly gay and lesbian persons. This article argues that while biblical commands may not settle complex moral issues like homosexuality, nevertheless, certain theological themes in the Bible and in Christian tradition often provide better clues for Christians discussing these issues than the terms which have regularly been used in secular, public discussion.
