f the perspective of our faith does not entail such an engagement with the world, then it simply won’t happen. The energies for reform generated by encouragements to seek justice will be dissipated by the frustrations of the task, if they are not continually renewed by the compelling convictions of our gospel faith. To be sure, the lingering perversity of our sin will always hobble our stride toward a greater measure of care for human need, but a vision from within the depths of our faith can help to set us free from our lesser inclinations.
