In my thirty years of traveling and working with Lutheran musicians, I’ve discovered that all church musicians can be divided into two groups, performists and hymnists—those who emphasize music groups in their churches and those who strive to develop solid participation from the whole congregation. I have met very few musicians who are well balanced in this area.
