What this essay proposes to do here is to lift up the principles and themes in Centesimus Annus that represent the common sense of Catholic teachings on issues of social justice, asking whether or not they might form a basis for building consensus. Second, it treats two new situations that, while discussed in the encyclical, do not receive adequate treatment.
