Three centuries ago, to explore religious topics in children's literature would have been a redundant exercise, since all children’s literature was religious. Only recently have we begun to see children’s books whose primary function is to entertain. Nowadays simply enticing children to spend time with a book can be an end in itself. Since it is not possible to present a comprehensive survey of all these books, what follows are some of the more interesting and recent examples of how religious topics are addressed in contemporary children’s books.
